To welcome in the New Year the W+K L-Gallery has been inhabited by a wonderful collection of tiny blue figures created by artist Ella Harrison.
These sculptures are inspired by Venus, Goddess of Beauty. Miniature statues of Venus have been discovered all over London, which were once used as Roman Votives. Through historical and visual research into votives and by sculpting these figurines, ideas of chance, hope and faith are explored.
Ella is an artist based in South East London, she has just completed an MA in Illustration at Camberwell College of Arts. Her work is inspired by everyday experiences of place and the urban environment. In particular, she loves to people watch, read poetry and let the history and folklore of a place inform her work. Her approach and practice are multi disciplinary. Harrison enjoys the physicality of process in her working method, embracing experimental materials to create two dimensional and three dimensional work. She creates illustration work, large scale murals/textiles,sculpture and installations.
