Both our Finance Director Bronwen (left) and Head of TV Julia (right) leave at the end of the week to go off on maternity leave. And not a moment too soon, by the looks of it.
Running in the trade press this week is this tactical ad celebrating the acquisition of the Independent newspaper by Russian billionaire and former KGB agent Alexander Lebedev, who also owns the Evening Standard.
'They (Wieden + Kennedy) have managed to revive a tired old brand from the 1970s that even my dad would be ashamed to use and created a genuinely hilarious piece of 30 second joy,' says the piece of the ad 'that hasn't aired in Britain but has become a global internet hit'.
For many years it was thought
the Davidson clan would die out but thanks to the herculean efforts of
one Ran Sax Holst, a baby son and heir to W+K's own Creative Director Tony was born at 0.43am on 24th March
2010. Spike Mikael Sax Davidson weighed in at a healthy 8lbs 7oz with
huge feet.
Possibly there is some yeti in the Davidson DNA.
Mother and baby are doing fine and returned home from
hospital on 25th March. Father is still in a state of shock and in need
of several baby head wetting sessions.
Please welcome some new faces in Finance here at W+K.
We have Ralph Wilson, above. Ralph will be covering the maternity leave of our Finance Director Bronwen for the next 8
months. Previously
he was FD of AKQA. So even the finance department is going interactive.
Please also welcomeSebastian Fahey, below. He'll be working with Jess on the
accounts payable team.
The Media Guardian Innovation Awards were last night, and we walked away with a ‘Mega’ in the creative category for our Onedotzero Festival Identity. The festival identity actively involved onedotzero's core audience of
design and computing enthusiasts in the creation of an innovative design
piece. Identity assets were generated by users and interacted with at a
Nokia-powered identity projection at BFI Southbank.
David, Tom, KJ and Karsten Schmidt enjoyed the fantastic views from the Paramount bar at the top of centre point.
Judges said: "This is a piece which engages the participant and gives them a penny drop 'I get it' genius moment. This idea nails its brief, serves a purpose and embraces technology and design and combines them all with a touch of genius and stunning visuals."
The award quite literally in the bag.
Good news for the agency - A nice step in the non-traditional direction.
Congratulations to everyone involved.
